The most active ingredient in the herb is thymol which has strong anti-bacterial properties and expectorant effect. The origin of the word thyme probably goes back to either the Greek word, “thumus” which means “courage”, or from the Greek word “thymos” meaning “to perfume”. It was also used by the Romans to “purify” their rooms. In Ancient Rome it was prized for its medicinal qualities and was used in the treatment of many ailments. The history of thyme as being in use as both a seasoning and a medicinal herb for goes back more than 3000 years.Īrchaeologists have found ancient writings in Egypt discussing the use of it and it has been identified as one of the ingredients used in mummification.Īncient Greeks considered it a symbol of style, elegance, and courage, and they used it as an incense to cleanse holy areas. We found him knowledgeable, fun, safety conscious, and skilled. I'm writing this because we were unsure whom to use for instruction - there was little info on TA - and we're glad we chose Adam over the other options. While the beaches themselves were not as good as kite beach on Maui or Kailua on Oahu, it's a great chance to learn a new sport or rent some decent gear and local expertise from a good instructor while on Kauai. Adam is pretty good at multitasking and worked well with two different students at varying levels. Water was rougher, so a bit more difficult start, but wind that day was excellent. Wind was strong, but Adam has a good selection of kites so no troubles. The second lesson was at Kitchens beach in Kapaa. The water there is pretty shallow and flat so great for beginners. Anini is rocky, so bring water shoes if you're not planning to be up on the board at first. The first lesson, at Anini, involved basics such as setup, kite control, body dragging, rescue, etc. We took two afternoons of lessons from him and had a ton of fun. Maui may be better known for kiteboarding, but if you find yourself in beautiful Kauai don't waste the wind! Adam Finn, from Kiteboard Kauai, is a great instructor who will teach at any level. We also offer guided and self-guided tours by. We have the best team to teach you how to kiteboard and Kailua offers the best conditions all year-round to start on the sport. This was only possible because of the great experience I had with him and I most definitely plan on taking more classes to learn to eventually be able to do jumps and tricks. In short, I never had a power kite in my hands before my classes with Adam after just two sessions with him, I absolutely fell in love with the sport. My wife and I immediately felt welcomed and can’t wait to come back to hang out and learn more from them. (FYI his mom is also a wicked kiteboarder). Adam also has a great selection of kites, harnesses and boards to fit anyone.ĭuring our stay in Kaua’i and through the classes I booked, I also had the chance to get to know Adam’s family. He will always pick the right location, wait for proper wind speed and wind direction, fit the kite size appropriately to your skills and if he feels everything is not perfectly ideal and safe for any reason, he prefers to reschedule the lesson than put you in danger. Also known as Baby Beach, it may come as a surprise that Fuji Beach is one of the best places in Kauai to go kiteboarding. Adam is also a helicopter pilot, which makes him very aware of wind conditions and safety. It was truly the best decision ever.Īdam is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher, has a great approach and knows the right way to explain the smallest details necessary to pick up kiteboarding quickly. I found Adam Finn through an internet search, visited his website, read the reviews and decided to book with him. Kite Beach, Baby Beach, Naish/Flash Beach, and Waiehu Beach also have large kiting communities.Never ever try to attempt kiting without proper and professional introduction – you will hurt yourself, big time.īefore my trip to Kaua'I I decided to research kiteboarding classes offered on the island. Hookipa Beach Park is famous for windsurfing and kiteboarding due to regular side-shore wind and good swell. Local schools include Aqua Sports Maui Kiteboarding and Kiteboarding School Maui. Basically I cruised the lots for hours at a time along with hundreds of others partygoers & was not able to access parking, and thus my room, until 2 in the morning. There is another lot attached to the secondary lot, but that is labelled (with a small barely noticeable sign) that it's NOT Oasis parking. Instead of having dedicated parking for the hotel, the tiny tiny lot just outside the lobby, along with the somewhat larger lot across the street are both City of LV pay lots you get a hang tag allowing free parking but on a Friday night every spot was filled from 6 PM til after 2 AM. This was a minor inconvenience but if you have mobility issues, such as an older couple with walkers who I ended up helping out, it's a major disadvantage. You have to walk through the nightclub dance floor & pool tables to get to the elevators in the tower, security holds you back until the floor is somewhat clear then waves you through. The noise level is high, the hotel provides bedside earplugs which is never a good sign. First & foremost, the location in downtown has numerous nightclubs & bars, including the floor level nightclub at the Oasis itself. Unfortunately in this case, my expectations were not met, in fact they were crushed. I chose the Oasis for a quick shopping weekend in Vegas, just wanted someplace quiet, convenient with good ratings & reasonable parking options.
